Obituary of Edward C. Turrell

Edward C.. Turrell of Middleport passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home. Mr. Turrell was born in the Town of Royalton on October 8, 1932 son of the late Benjamin and Marie (Payne) Turrell and he has lived in the Middleport area all of his life. He served in the US Coast Guard and while in the Coast Guard was a lighthouse keeper in Barker, NY. He and his wife Janet M. (Adams) Turrell were married July 3, 1954. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator at Harrison Radiator division, GMC in Lockport for 41 years retiring in l992. Mr. Turrell was a member of the Middleport Masons for 55 years and he was Grand Master in l969. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his family. He was a dog control officer for several years for the Town of Hartland and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, farming and had a fruit stand at his farm. He also enjoyed spending several winters in Florida. Mr. Turrell was a very giving and caring and thoughtful man and he cared about others. He was predeceased by three brothers Robert Turrell, William Turrell and Kenneth Turrell. He is survived by his wife Janet M. Turrell, his six children Richard Turrell of Medina, Ronald (Laurie) Turrell and James (Barbara) Turrell all of Middleport, Marilyn (Bob) Curtiss of Medina, John Turrell and Katherine (Martin) Hirner all of Middleport. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and his siblings Mary (Fred) Seaver of Middleport, Ruth Turrell of Florida, Edna (Ronald) Fill of N. Tonawanda and Doris (Joe) Flynn of Kentucky. Also survived by a sister-in-law Joan Turrell of Lewiston and several nieces and nephews and several close friends. Friends and relatives may call Sunday from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport where a Masonic Service will be held at 4PM followed by a Prayer Service with Daniel Hill officiating Memorials to Niagara Hospice or the Gasport Lions Club would be appreciated by the Turrell family. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Hartland Central Cemetery. . .
