I am unable to attend Fred's services but want to send my deepest sympathy to his family. I haven't seen Fred or any of Uncle Carl's family in years even though live an Brockport which is not that far from Albion. Fred was my age, in fact when I went to Albion school we were in the same class. Unfortunately families don't stay in touch as we use to.
My love to all, it sounds like he had very full filled life and a wonderful family.

Fred and I were great friends during our early teenage years. Many a summer would find us jumping into the Erie Canal from the locks at Lattin's bridge. That was the old locks. Not the current locks.
We explored "The Gulley" close to Eagle Harbor and found a culvert that went under the canal. Not many knew that was there.
We also got to know the "gentleman" or captain, as we called him, that piloted the little boat that changed the oil lanterns on the canal. (I wonder how many remember that!) When we went on the boat, Fred and I had the task of changing the lamps. The "gentleman" would gently put the bow of the boat on the rocks, then one of us would flip over a round metal disc on the bow, step off, remove the old lantern and replace it with a fresh one. Many of the lamps glass globes were pocked mark from BB strikes. (Don't know how they got there.)
After about the first hour, the "gentleman" would have his morning "cocktails" and Fred and I would drive the boat and finish replacing the lamps, then pilot the boat back to the state dock just west of the Main St. bridge in Albion, leaving the "gentleman" sound asleep on a small cushion at the rear of the boat.
Those were really fun years.
Thank you Fred! And thank you for the great memories!
To Fred's family, our condolences. He was truly, "One of a Kind!"

Always a smile and a cheerful greeting! It isn't only Chris and I who miss you, it is all of the workers here at Watt Farms and all of the cats! You took drinks on a hot day into the orchards for the workers and provided rides for them when needed.
And, over 25 cats knew the sound of your truck the moment it turned in the long driveway. They ran to great you while waiting for whatever meal you had prepared for them. You would sit and watch them eat with a smile on your face and they were most appreciate. You will be missed and are irreplaceable to all of us.

Sarah, I knew your Grandpa when he worked for the hospital. He was a very pleasant man. Later he would visit us at Oak Orchard Health and bring us goodies along with a smile and sometimes a joke. He will be missed by all that knew him.
