Obituary of Rene' J. Schasel

Rene’ J. Schasel died on March 30, 2019 after a short illness. 

He was born February 6, 1947 to Rudolph and Mildred Schasel in Port Byron, NY where he grew up. 

He graduated from Port Byron High School and received a degree in business from Aurora College in Aurora, IL.  Most of his professional career was spent in the banking industry.  When the Anchor Bank Operations Center opened in Albion, he transferred there retiring in 2007 when it had become Washington Mutual.  Rene’ had a passion for antiques, collecting and priding himself on his various and extensive collections.  These included early electrical appliances, medallion photos, old novels, folk art paintings, depression and carnival glass, old radios, phonographs and clocks.  He also had a real love for West Highland White Terriers.  He was active for many years in the Pullman Memorial Church, served several years as Treasurer for the Cobblestone Society and was currently a Board Member of the Orleans County Historical Association.  Rene’ had a very strong appreciation for historical architecture and its preservation.  He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Dana in 1991. 

He is survived by his sisters: Marena Rupert, Elizabeth (Harry D.) Rupp, three nieces: Tracy, Kelly and Heather, nephew: Brian and his long-time companion, Bill Lattin.  His extended family includes Adrienne Kirby and Allison Lattin and their families. 

Family and friends are invited to attend Rene’s Memorial Service THURSDAY April 4th in the Historic Cobblestone Universalist Church in Childs, NY (Rts. 104 & 98) beginning at 4 p.m.  A reception will take place following the ceremony.  Private interment will be held in Mt. Albion Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cobblestone Society, PO Box 363, Albion, NY, 14411.
