Obituary of Mary E. Petronio

Mary E. Petronio, age 82, died unexpectedly in her home July 15, 2019. 

She was born December 3, 1936 in Eden, NY a daughter of Douglas and Mary (Morganti) Patten and had lived in this area since the early 80’s. 

Mary was a graduate of Medina High School, Brockport State Teachers College and received her Masters Degree in Special Education from Nazareth College.  She taught elementary school in the Rochester City School District and was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association.  Mary was also a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of America, the Mahjong Club, the Knitting Club and in addition to her love of gardening, she enjoyed attending craft and antique shows.  She loved to decorate her home and hosting people for various events and had a love of cooking for the neighborhood.  Mary was world traveler, having been to 6 continents throughout the world.  Her love for travel was a gift she shared with her family…especially her grandchildren, as she often took them with her on her trips.

Mrs. Petronio was predeceased by her brothers: Edgar and Paul Patten. 

She is survived by her son: Frank (Dr. Martha David) Petronio of Spencerport, her daughter: Debbie (Doug Braun) Petronio of East Aurora, her brother: Douglas (Nola) Patten of FL, sister: Ann (Bill) Haffly of FL, and 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth, David, James and Olivia. 

The family will receive friends at the Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Ave., Rochester, NY, 14607 SATURDAY September 7, from 1-2 p.m. where her memorial service will be held immediately following visitation.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church at the above mentioned address, or a Garden Club of your choice.
